Being a beginner again as an adult can be strange,

Being a beginner again as an adult can be strange, but actually I’m happiest when I’m learning.

Starting as a new yoga teacher is a little scary, but mostly very exciting. It feels good to start to give back to a community that has given me so much.

After getting my Yin certification I’m continuing to study yoga whilst also starting to teach my first few classes over the next couple of weeks - both online and in person - to build my confidence and experience for what’s to come.

What are you learning/a beginner at just now that you’re really enjoying?

Anxiety has been a part of my life for so long now

Anxiety has been a part of my life for so long now that I don’t really remember what it feels like not to have it.

Over the years though I’ve gotten a lot better at managing and coping with it - in most situations.

Sometimes though, I still find myself worrying about the future: catastrophising, playing out the worst case scenarios again and again until them seem much bigger, more real, and more likely to happen. I end up stressed, on edge, upset and tense.

And then, 9 times out of 10 (or even more) that worst case scenario doesn’t actually happen! I’ve given myself all that stress, wasted all that energy and brought on all that negativity for nothing.

I try my best now when I catch this happening to at least try and make myself imagine the best case scenario for a few moments too. It’s amazing how much better it can make you feel and that positivity has often brought with it more positive outcomes for me.

Life is all about balance…

But that’s easier said than done sometimes!

It’s ok to need a little help to find that balance - your stabilisers! In this case mine was a wall, but it could also be some time off, therapy, coaching, medication or a stern talking to from your best friend…

Whatever you need to help you find balance is your choice for your journey alone. We can’t always be pushing, we need to heal and grow too.

Sometimes, I’m pretty terrible at taking my own

Sometimes, I’m pretty terrible at taking my own advice, and this is why I know from experience that saying negative things about your body will not help you change it for the better. It will keep you in a rut of negativity and perpetuate any unhealthy habits you’re struggling to break.

Only inspiring, positive and kind words (and thoughts) will encourage more health and vitality and help you with your goals - whether it’s weight loss, muscle gain, flexibility or simply self acceptance.

We are not our body, but it’s where we live for

We are not our body, but it’s where we live for now.
We are not our mind, but it’s how we interpret our experiences.

Our minds are racing with information overload and our bodies are putting up with the fast paced yet ironically sedentary lifestyle that is now the ‘norm’.

It takes a toll that most of us know and experience too often. Burnout, poor mental health, pain, stiffness, bloating, inflammation, always picking up a cold…and the irony is that when these things happen we often say ‘but I don’t have time to be sick!’

So take an opportunity today to nourish your body and still your mind.

Give them some of your precious time in return for everything they give to you: your self.
